Questions to Ask Before Paying a Wedding Vendor Deposit
Confirm the recipient, reserved service, schedule and written booking terms before paying. A clear record connects each payment to the arrangement you accepted.

Confirm the business name, contact person, event date, address and service scope on the booking document. Ask which team, space or resource is being reserved and whether the quoted availability is still valid. Check the amount due now and what that payment changes: a provisional inquiry, a temporary hold and a confirmed booking may be different stages. Do not infer confirmation from a payment screen alone; ask for the supplier’s written acknowledgment.
Resolve the open questions
Request the remaining payment schedule, included operating hours and process for additional work. Ask how a date change, guest-count change or cancellation would be handled under the supplier’s written terms. If important wording is unclear, obtain qualified advice rather than relying on a verbal interpretation. Keep the proposed scope and the payment request together so everyone can see which version of the arrangement is being accepted.
Pay against a maintained record
Verify payment instructions with the known vendor contact, particularly if bank or payment details have changed. Retain the receipt, transaction reference and invoice or booking acknowledgment. Record the paid amount and next deadline in your budget tracker. Ask who can authorize changes during the event and how extra charges will be approved. Keep sensitive payment information out of broadly shared planning groups while giving the coordinator enough information to resolve an operational question.

Does a successful payment always confirm the vendor?
The booking process depends on the supplier’s terms. Ask for an explicit confirmation that identifies the reserved service and event details.
